Discover the breathtaking beauty of Iceland in all its glory. First, explore the pristine highlands of Iceland for a week during a multi-day hike along the Laugavegur. After that, you'll travel as a duo for a week in a 4X4 with a rooftop tent and discover the must-see spots across the entire island.

The Trail

The Laugavegur Route is one of the most beautiful “must do” hikes in the world. The reasons are clear: from the very first step on this legendary trek, you'll feel like you're on another planet. You'll encounter one incredible natural phenomenon after another, all paired with stunning panoramas.

During a guided 5-day trek, you'll camp from shelter to shelter, where there are always sanitary facilities. At some shelters, you'll find a hot spring nearby where you can relax after a long hike.

The Roadtrip

In just 7 days, you'll travel along one of the most iconic roads in the world: the Icelandic Ring Road. When you go on an adventure with us, you’ll be completely independent. We’ve mapped out a route that takes you not only to the island's highlights but also to some hidden gems we discovered through the locals. Occasionally, you'll even stray off the beaten path.

At the beginning of your journey, we'll provide you with a navigation system that includes all the routes and a comprehensive roadbook filled with useful information for your adventure.

FAQ’s

You can find almost all the information regarding both parts of the trip on the respective websites of The Iceland Trail and Nordic Nomads Iceland. You can also always send us an email for more information. If you would like extra information about the Trail, email info@theicelandtrail.com, and if you would like extra information about the Roadtrip, email info@nordicnomads.org.

Below, you'll find answers to some frequently asked questions.

Where will I sleep after the trail and before the road trip?

Your trip includes 5 nights with The Iceland Trail and 7 nights with Nordic Nomads. Between both trips, you’ll stay at a campsite right next to our base camp. Your first night in Iceland (before you start the trail) will be spent at an accommodation of your choice.

Would you prefer to stay in the center of Reykjavík?
You can! All you need to do is book a hotel room of your choice and take a taxi to the base camp the day after your stay to kick off your road trip.

How does the payment process work?

Upon registration, you will be asked to pay 40% of the total travel costs within 10 days. If this deadline is not met, unfortunately, the registration will be automatically canceled. The remaining amount must be paid no later than 60 days before departure; installment payments are currently not possible.

Additionally, you will need to pay a deposit shortly before departure, and this amount depends on your chosen car insurance. If you make changes to your options, the system will automatically adjust the 35% based on the total amount.

There are various online payment methods available. If the payment fails, it is likely that there was an error in entering the payment or an incorrect reference number.

I don't want flights, but I do want to book a shuttle through you. Is that possible?

The shuttle between the airport and the basecamp is free for everyone who has booked their flights through us. If you haven't booked your flights through us, you can still use the shuttle if you select the option during booking.

For your information: a spot on the shuttle costs €35 per person per trip. The outbound shuttle leaves the airport at 4:30 PM, and the return shuttle leaves the basecamp at 4:30 AM.

Is it possible to shorten the hike and extend the road trip?
Both trips are coordinated with each other, so unfortunately it's not possible to adjust their duration. Below, we illustrate how the combination trip will look exactly: If you're traveling from Monday to Monday:
  • You’ll fly to Iceland on the first Monday and arrive in the afternoon at the base camp where you'll receive all sorts of gear and explanations about the trail from our local guides. In the evening, you can choose to sleep in a hotel or at a campsite.
  • The next day, you’ll depart at sunrise for Laugavegur to start the 5-day hike.
  • You’ll arrive in Reykjavík on the first Sunday, where you can return your gear before exploring the city. After that, you'll sleep at the base camp (or in a hotel room if you booked one yourself).
  • On the second Monday, you'll set off in the late afternoon for a road trip after a thorough briefing from our rangers.
  • You’ll arrive at the base camp on the second Sunday in the early evening for check-out.
  • On the third Monday, you'll take a shuttle to the airport at 4:30 AM and then fly back home.
Can I leave a suitcase at the base camp during my week on the trail?

This is possible but at your own risk. The basecamp is a hostel that can also be booked by people who are not involved in the trip.

I can't go anymore, what now?
