Where are we sleeping?

You’ll be sleeping in your own tent for a week near shelters. We provide the unique sleeping spots. At most locations, all sanitary facilities are available. You can also shower at most sleeping spots for a small fee. This can be easily paid with a card.

For whom?

Anyone between the ages of 16 and 65 with good fitness and a sense of adventure can hike this trail. The trip includes a solid amount of physical activity, so being in good health is a must. Keep in mind the variable weather conditions.

Are you looking to try a multi-day hike for the first time but have doubts about your physical capacity?

We’d love to help you out with the following questions:

  • How often have I been physically active in the past three months?
  • What types of physical activity do I regularly engage in, and for how long?
  • Have I had any recent injuries that might affect my ability to enjoy this adventure?

What should I bring?

You will receive a packing list well in advance, detailing all the necessary gear.

The basics include good hiking shoes (at least category A/B that provide ankle support), a backpack (about 65 – 80L), a daypack (about 40L), sturdy camping gear, and protective (rain) clothing.

  • Choose shoes that you feel comfortable enough in for a long trek.
  • Prepare for changing weather patterns. Good protective rain gear is an absolute must, and don't forget a few warm clothing items. It can get quite chilly in the evenings.
  • If you're bringing your own tent (minimum 3-season), you'll also need to bring your own sleeping pad (minimum R-value 3) and sleeping bag (minimum comfort temperature 2°C).

You can optionally rent camping gear and trekking poles from us. The camping set includes a quality, compact tent, sleeping pad, and sleeping bag.

What camping gear do I need? And can I rent it from you?

You can either bring your own camping gear or rent it from us for an additional €79 per person. You'll receive high-quality equipment from us: a tent, sleeping bag, and mat. If you bring your own gear, make sure it's of good quality and suitable for the conditions: a 3-season tent, a compact mat (minimum R-value 3), and a sleeping bag (minimum comfort temperature 2°C). You'll receive a packing list in advance with an overview of all the necessary gear.

What does luggage transport include?

The luggage transport means that both your personal items and camping gear will be transported from one shelter to another by a 4×4 vehicle. On-site, you'll receive a protectiveduffel bag (90L), where everything must fit. Your luggage can weigh a maximum of 20kg. This includes camping gear, which usually weighs around 5 kg (tent, mat, sleeping bag) and food packs (+-4kg). Any unnecessary items will be left at the base camp.

However, the number of backpacks that can be taken is limited, so act fast. You will still need a large backpack of your own to get to Iceland. A daypack is also required to carry while hiking. You can store drinks, food, and rain gear in it.

What's included in the food pack?

The food pack is highly recommended, as the meals provide you with all the necessary nutrients during a hike. You'll find tasty, varied meals (including breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Your stove (including a cooking pot, gas burner, and gas canister) is also included. There is both a vegetarian and a non-vegetarian option available.

How many people are on the Trail?

We offer different departure dates so that participants can be spread out over the season. You'll mainly meet each other at the base camps in the mornings and evenings.

Do I hike independently or do I follow the guide?

The guides provide daily briefings and instructions on how to best tackle the day's hike. Basically, you're free to complete the hike on your own. There will always be one or more guides walking at the back to support hikers who may have encountered problems during the hike. If you feel more comfortable with a guide by your side, you can always follow the guide's path.

For safety reasons, the guides may decide to keep the group together.

Give back to nature through Greentripper.

The planet offers us so much beauty to admire, but if we want to continue doing so in the future, we need to protect it today. That's why we are making extra efforts to minimize the impact of our trips, and you can reliably contribute to a climate project by Greentripper in the booking form, which balances out the CO2 emissions from your transport. By contributing to their certified project “Wildlife Cambodia,” you help protect beautiful forests and the wildlife within them, support local communities, and reduce the CO2 emissions from your transport. If you choose to contribute to offsetting your transport emissions, Travelbase will also make an additional contribution for the local emissions. After your trip, you'll receive an official carbon credit certificate.

Read more about our efforts at travelbase.eu/impact.

How many kilometers will I cover?

Throughout the week, you'll walk about 80 km. The stages vary between 12 and 16 km, with a longer day on day 3 (24 km). The days are well distributed and balanced, providing a nice mix between the number of kilometers covered and the elevation gained. For those interested, the guides offer short evening walks on some days.

Are there guides joining?

A experienced team of Dutch-speaking guides will lead the trail. Each morning, they provide a briefing. They know the route and what to do in case of emergencies. The guides are also there to support you whenever needed.

What sanitary facilities are available on the trail?

At the campsites where we stay, there are always toilets available. Additionally, 4 out of 5 campsites have a shower. However, during the hikes, you won’t come across any sanitary facilities. That means that when nature calls, you'll have to go about it the adventurous way. Luckily, there are usually enough rocks or other spots nearby where you can find some privacy.

We follow a Leave No Trace policy, which means we want to keep nature as untouched as possible. That's why we ask everyone to bring small bags for toilet paper and other waste. These can be disposed of properly at the next base camp.
